2024/25 NHL Season Preview

We’ve officially made it – hockey season is here There’s no stretch of time longer than those months between the Cup being hoisted in late June and the electric moment of the first puck drop in October. But thankfully, that dry spell is over, and we have officially made it! We are so back.

The offseason is a whirlwind. Some players are grinding in the gym, working on their game, and aiming for a breakout year. Others are unwinding on the golf course, and a few are traveling, and having a good time. Despite the different ways players spend their summers, fans are united in doing one thing: anxiously counting down the days until hockey returns. We’re about to trade in the wait for pure adrenaline, intensity, and unforgettable moments on the ice. It’s almost time—hockey season is nearly back, and we’re more ready than ever!

Let’s dive into the upcoming season and break down a few teams worth watching:

1. Edmonton Oilers – Odds to win: 8-1
The Oilers are sitting atop the betting favorites for a reason. Led by Connor McDavid, arguably the best player in hockey, their powerplay is an unstoppable force. With most of last season's roster returning, they’re looking to finish what they started. Last year, they nearly pulled off an epic comeback in the Stanley Cup Finals. This season, their mission is clear: settle unfinished business.

2. Dallas Stars – Always the bridesmaid...
Dallas is due for a big win. Despite making the playoffs in 7 of the last 10 seasons and a heartbreaking Cup Final loss in 2020, they’ve stayed competitive with their core intact. Jake Oettinger in net and forwards like Rupe Hintz, Wyatt Johnston, and Jason Robertson give this team all the tools to go far. If they can stay consistent, a deep playoff run is on the horizon.

3. Anaheim Ducks – Future in the making
Anaheim may not be a Cup contender right now, but their young core promises a bright future. Trevor Zegras, Mason McTavish, Troy Terry, and rookie Leo Carlsson are the building blocks of what could become a dangerous team in a few years. For now, the Ducks are still in a rebuilding phase, but keep an eye on them for future surprises.

4. Nashville Predators – Dark Horse Pick
Nashville is always in the mix but never quite over the hump—until now. Adding veteran leadership in Steven Stamkos, a two-time Cup champion with Tampa Bay, could be the missing piece. Stamkos brings experience and a winning mentality to a team that’s only missed the playoffs once in the last 10 seasons. If everything clicks, don’t be surprised to see the Predators make a serious run for the Cup.

With the season around the corner, all that’s left is to sit back, grab your favorite jersey, and enjoy the ride. Hockey is almost back, and we’re all here for it!
